A Crusty Tale
Chapter 1. Tomas was an old man who lived alone in a small village on the edge of a forest. His life was simple, but he was content. Every day he would walk into town to buy a loaf of crusty bread, his only real indulgence. One day, Tomas arrived at the bakery to find that the shelves were empty.
He asked the baker what had happened and the baker explained that there had been a shortage of flour due to bad weather. Tomas was disappointed and began to leave when he heard a voice from behind him. It was the baker’s daughter. She said she had something for him and handed him a loaf of bread, still warm from the oven.
She said she had made it just for him and that she hoped it would bring him joy. Tomas thanked her kindly but couldn’t help feeling guilty for taking something so precious from someone else in need. He offered to pay for it but she refused and told him it was her gift to him.
He thanked her again before returning home with his gift in hand. That night, as he ate his dinner, Tomas thought about how kind people can be and how one act of kindness can make such a difference in someone else’s life. The next morning, Tomas returned to the bakery with a bag full of grain that he had harvested from his own fields.
The baker’s daughter was amazed at his generosity and thanked him profusely before taking the grain back inside to bake more loaves of bread for those in need. Tomas smiled as he walked away, knowing that he had done something good for someone who deserved it more than himself. From then on, every time Tomas visited the bakery, there would be an extra loaf of crusty bread waiting for him - a reminder of how one act of kindness can make our world just a little bit brighter.
