Beth's Liverpool Christmas
Chapter 1. Beth had always dreamt of going home for the holidays. She had been living in London for the past five years, having ventured down from Liverpool after completing university. It had been an arduous journey, with long days spent in the office and nights spent in a poky flat near the Thames.
The festive season was always a struggle away from home - there was no family to share it with and every year she felt more and more isolated as her friends returned to their own families. This year, however, Beth decided to take a chance and embark on the long journey back to Liverpool, where her parents still lived. She arrived at Lime Street station late at night and took a taxi through the city's twinkling streets.
As they drove through Beth's childhood neighbourhood she felt an overwhelming sense of nostalgia - it was almost as if nothing had changed since she left. When Beth entered her parents' house she was overcome with emotion - it was exactly how she remembered it.
Her father made her cup of tea while her mother set about preparing dinner for the evening ahead. After dinner they all gathered around the Christmas tree and exchanged presents before settling down for a movie night - just like old times.
Beth hadn't realised how much she'd missed being surrounded by loved ones until this moment - it made all those years in London seem worthwhile. As she watched snowflakes drift past the window, Beth realised that coming home this Christmas had been a wise decision indeed.
