Rebel in Haifa: A 70s Tale
Chapter 1. FADE IN: EXT. HAIFA, 1970s - DAY The sun is beating down on the city of Haifa, casting a glowing light on its vibrant streets. A young man strides along the pavement, his head held high, his steps determined and deliberate. He wears faded denim jeans and a leather jacket. His hair is long and unkempt.
He stops at a corner store and peers into the window. He can see inside, where people are bustling around, buying their groceries and chatting away in friendly conversation. He turns away with a sigh and continues to walk aimlessly through the streets of Haifa. INT. YOUNG MAN'S APARTMENT - NIGHT The young man opens his door to reveal an old and cramped apartment filled with books and records scattered about the floor.
He collapses onto his bed with a deep sigh, trying to make sense of what he has seen today. EXT. STREET CORNER - DAY The young man stands at the corner of two busy streets in Haifa, looking forlornly around him as he watches people go about their daily lives; some happy, some sad but all seemingly content with where they are going in life. He feels out of place here; an outsider to this alien world that seems to pass him by unnoticed every day.
EXT. PARK - DAY The young man walks through a park full of children playing and laughing together in joyous abandon while adults sit on benches chatting away happily in the sunshine. He pauses for a moment before walking away again, feeling even more isolated than before; this is not his world either it seems. It's too perfect for him; too ordered and restrained when all he wants is to be free-spirited like those around him seem to be able to do so easily!
INT CAFE - DAY The young man sits alone in a cafe drinking coffee from an old chipped cup as he watches the other customers come and go; each one seemingly content with their lives while he feels more lost than ever before … until suddenly he looks up from his cup with an expression of resolve on his face as if something has just clicked inside him… EXT BARBER SHOP - DAY The young man enters a small barber shop located on one of Haifa's backstreets and takes off his hat revealing that he has cut off most of his hair! As he pays for the cut the barber looks up at him in surprise before giving him an approving nod – it appears that this young rebel may have found himself after all! EXT STREET CORNER – DAY The young man strides confidently down the street towards us now; no longer looking lost or out-of-place but instead full of purpose and belonging as if this is where makes sense finally… FADE OUT:
