Light Speed Leaders

Chapter 1. Light Speed Leaders It was the defining moment of their lives. The culmination of years of research, testing, and anticipation. They were the first people to test drive fasterthanlight warp drives on spacecrafts. It was a mission like no other; they were light speed leaders. Their ship, the Light Speed One, had been painstakingly engineered with precision and care.

Every component had been rigorously tested and proven to be up to the task at hand: propelling them through space at speeds unseen by mankind before now. The crew had trained for months on end for this mission. This was not an endeavor to be taken lightly; this was something to be taken seriously, as their lives depended on it going according to plan. They sat in their seats, strapped in as tight as possible. Their hearts raced in anticipation as the countdown began: five...

four... three... two... one...

zero! The Light Speed One rocketed off into space with a loud roar that shook each of them to their core; they were now officially light speed leaders! As they passed through the stars, they felt a dizzying sensation of power and exhilaration course through them like never before. The ship's computer monitored their every move and adjusted accordingly so that they would not feel any adverse effects due to the extreme speeds they were travelling at; they felt as if they could fly forever!

Soon enough though, it was time for them to make history once more; they prepared for re-entry into Earth's atmosphere and made a smooth landing onto solid ground. Cheers erupted from those watching as everyone realized what had just occurred: mankind had just achieved its first ever fasterthanlight warp drive mission! Light Speed Leaders had done it - their names would go down in history books forever more! As time passed by, many more missions followed in their footsteps but none could ever quite match up to that first momentous occasion when humanity truly broke free from its earthly bonds and ventured out into unknown galaxies beyond our own.
